Fiesta Con Causa – Operation Walk Manitoba
Fiesta Con Causa Celebrated Our Purpose
On October 16, 2025, over 200 guests joined Fiesta con Causa, celebrating Nicaraguan culture and the inspiring mission of Operation Walk Manitoba. Through vibrant music, delicious food, and heartfelt stories from patients in Managua, we came together to support life-changing hip and knee surgeries for those who could never otherwise afford them. It was an unforgettable evening of culture, compassion, and community—changing lives, one step at a time.
With the Folklorama team of musicians and dancers, as well as members of our volunteer medical team, guests were entertained, inspired, and allowed to learn more about the powerful impact of Operation Walk Manitoba.
One of our Masters of Ceremonies, Brian Meronek, a Winnipeg lawyer and long-time supporter of Operation Walk Manitoba, spoke eloquently about why this mission matters—and why we all need Operation Walk in our lives.

Reflections on the Importance of Operation Walk
(Excerpt from remarks by Brian Meronek)
“Why this trip? Why devote resources here when there is so much need at home—our health system under strain, with limited resources and long wait times? These are legitimate questions.
As someone who has participated six times, I see two answers:
First, a global responsibility. The world is facing unprecedented turmoil—conflicts, uncertainty, and diminishing foreign aid. Now more than ever, it is up to good people everywhere to step up where they can.
Second, why Nicaragua? In Canada, there are at least some resources available. In Nicaragua—the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere—there is no such safety net. Someone once said that being born here, or immigrating here, is like winning the lottery. In Nicaragua, many can’t even buy a ticket.
Operation Walk provides that ‘lottery ticket.’ Over the past 12 years, our teams have delivered life-changing care to hundreds of patients, allowing them to walk again, care for their families, and rebuild their lives.
For people you may never meet, your generosity brings light, hope, and a chance at a sustainable future. Their gratitude is boundless—they call our donors ángeles—angels—and they mean it.
This mission is a small light we shine into a world facing dark moments. You deserve their gratitude—and ours—for making this journey possible.”
